Sunday afternoon Orioles game thread: at Blue Jays, 1:07

New, comments

The first half ends today and the Orioles haven’t had a sweep this year. They can change that this afternoon.

All around America — and all around the world — millions upon millions of people are gathered around their TVs, witnessing the must-see sports event of the summer.

Spoiler alert: it is not the Orioles/Blue Jays game.

No, the Women’s World Cup final kind of takes precedence today. (Go USA!) But if the timing works out, that match could be wrapping up just about the time the O’s take the field in Toronto this afternoon. And they’re chasing something special, too, if not something on the caliber of worldwide championship glory.

With a win today, the O’s would wrap up their first series sweep of the 2019 season, just in time to close out the first half. They’ve handled the Blue Jays with relative ease in the first two games of the series and are 4-1 at Rogers Centre this season, so if there’s ever a time to pull off the feat, this is it. They’ll send Asher Wojciechowski to the mound for his second start, wanting to evaluate him a bit more. If he’s able to stick in the rotation, kudos to him, although that means I’ll have to start learning how to spell his name without looking it up every time.

Here’s hoping the Orioles can follow the USWNT to victory today.
