Wednesday afternoon Orioles game thread: at Yankees, 1:05

The Orioles, at long last, will play their final game of the season against the Yankees. I wish it had happened in April.

The torture is almost over. The Orioles/Yankees season series wraps up this afternoon with the 19th meeting between the two clubs. After today, the O’s will never again have to see those pinstriped barbarians in 2019, except perhaps in their nightmares.

The carnage has been well documented. The Yankees have hit 60 home runs against the O’s, the most by any team against a single opponent in major league history. They hit 43 of those at Camden Yards, the most by any team at a visiting ballpark in major league history. Gleyber Torres hit 13 himself, the most by any player against a single opponent in divisional history. Look, there’s been lots of home runs, okay?

The Yankees have won 15 straight games against the O’s. But as the old saying goes, “The 16th time’s the charm.”

I’m not particularly optimistic about the Birds’ chances today. But maybe the Yankees will just be...tired? Just, like, physically exhausted from hitting so many home runs, or emotionally drained from laying so many savage thumpings on the Orioles day after day? I mean, probably not, but that seems to be the Orioles’ only hope at this juncture.

Here goes nothing!
