There is no question of the state of the Orioles in 2019. They are bad. Really bad. But even with as bad as they are, it’s still kind of strange that they don’t have a single sweep on the season. They have had the chance several times, but it just didn’t happen.
Tonight is their latest chance, and it might seem a bit easier to get based on the fact that this is only a two-game series. Yes, the Nationals are good and probably going to the playoffs, but anyone can win a single game.
Enter Max Scherzer, tonight’s starter for the Nationals and one of the baseball players I enjoy most. The 2019 version of Scherzer is leading the league in strikeouts per nine innings (12.5) strikeouts per walk (7.38) and FIP (2.18). His ERA is a tidy 2.41. He’s good. Even with all that, thanks in part to some bad luck and to a Nationals bullpen that has had its troubles this year, the Nats are only 10-11 in starts made by Scherzer this year.
Will that mark be evened up at 11-11 tonight? Or will the Orioles prevail?
