The Orioles open up a road series in Kansas City tonight, hoping they get the good John Means in his return to the mound.

John Means is back on the active roster and starting tonight in a road tilt against the Royals. The left-hander’s stats this year have shown he’s much more comfortable pitching at Camden Yards (2.88 ERA) than on the road (4.76 ERA). In his lone start against Kansas City this year, Means allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings on four hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

The last few months have not been kind to Means though. In July he put up a 5.24 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP and in August he’s had a 6.05 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. But as Andrea detailed in the Orioles-Royals series preview, the lefty has made some adjustments recently and got back on track in his last start.

Eric Skoglund takes the hill for the Royals, making just his second start of the year. Last time out, he gave up two runs over five innings in a no-decision versus Cleveland. He had three walks and no strikeouts in that game, and in his career he owns a measly 1.85 SO/W.

In his only appearance against the Orioles in his career, Skoglund allowed three runs over 6.1 innings. Only two Orioles have accumulated any at-bats against the Royals’ left-hander. Trey Mancini is 1-for-3 and Chris Davis is 1-for-3 with a home run. Only one of those two players is in the lineup tonight. I think you can guess who.
