So last night wasn’t fun. The Orioles gave up leads in the ninth (with two outs) and 12th innings, and ended up with loss No. 100 on a walk-off grand slam.
But that’s behind the Birds now. Now there’s a chance to take this series that has 0.0 effect on the rest of the American League. And that’s what’s important!
Getting the ball for the Orioles will be Asher Wojciechowski, who seems to pitch every Sunday. Wojciechowski is 2-8 with a 5.51 ERA but has been particularly brutal in his last eight appearances, going 0-5 with a 7.05 ERA. He was hit hard - as were the rest of Baltimore’s pitchers - in his last outing, a 10-4 loss to Texas in which he gave up six hits and four runs, all earned, in only two innings.
Going for Detroit will be Edwin Jackson, whom you might remember from every major league team, including the Orioles in 2017. Jackson is 3-9 with a 9.76 ERA, and was even worse than Wojciechowski in his last start, allowing six hits and six earned runs in two innings in what was, nonetheless, a 12-11 Tiger win over the Yankees.
