Wednesday night Orioles game thread: vs. Blue Jays, 7:05

The Orioles played “tired” on Tuesday, according to manager Brandon Hyde. They’ll try for a more energetic showing tonight.

The Orioles dropped the opener of their three-game series with Toronto Tuesday, and manager Brandon Hyde said the team’s energy level wasn’t up to snuff.

“I thought we played like a really tired team,” he said after the 8-5 defeat. “We need better effort. ... Everybody’s tired. That’s part of it. You’ve got to grind through it.”

Strong words. We’ll see if the Orioles get the message today. Some response would be welcome after the Orioles let an eighth-inning lead slip away and then fell apart to the tune of four runs allowed in the ninth.

Getting the ball for the Orioles will be Dylan Bundy, who is 6-14 with a 4.99 ERA. He’s been decent of late, with a 3.94 ERA over his last five starts, and he allowed two earned runs in 5.2 innings in his last start against the Dodgers. He also didn’t cover home plate in that game, so...let’s hope there’s no repeat of that tonight.

Starting for the Blue Jays will be Clay Buchholz, who’s 1-5 with a 5.63 ERA. Buchholz missed three months with a shoulder injury, and has gone 1-3 with a 4.57 ERA since his return. He hasn’t faced the Orioles this season, and hasn’t gone up against Baltimore since he was with the Red Sox in 2016.
