A two-game series against the Marlins in Miami concludes today. It’s a prime opportunity for the Birds to earn a mini-series sweep against a team with a record (7-9) very close to their own (8-9). The O’s have been road warriors in April with a 7-3 record as the away team. They are only 1-6 at home.
Baltimore’s own Bruce Zimmermann will be making his fourth start of the season and brings a 4.24 ERA into this afternoon’s matchup. In his most recent start, the lefty took a hard-luck loss after giving up two runs in five innings against the Mariners. His two walks and two home runs allowed in that game were both season highs.
The Orioles will face the Marlins’ 23-year-old left-hander Trevor Rogers, who is making only his 11 major league start (4th this year). Through 15 innings in 2021, he’s got a 2.40 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. And while the Orioles are unfamiliar with Rogers, they are batting .269/.308/.419 against lefties as a team, which is much better than their triple-slash line against righties.
Rock Kubatko tweeted this morning that Anthony Santander will miss about 2-4 weeks due to an ankle sprain. Ryan McKenna has been recalled as Santander goes on the 10-day IL.
