Walk-off wins are fun. Walk-off wins over the Yankees? That’s what I’m talking about. So how do the Orioles top yesterday’s win? With a little late night baseball.
The Orioles will take on the Athletics tonight at the Coliseum. Oakland took two of three from Baltimore last week, but the series ended with the Orioles snapping the A’s 13-game win streak. The Athletics may have revenge on their mind tonight, but the Orioles will have their ace on the mound.
John Means gets the start for Baltimore. His 1.50 ERA ranks among the best in the league, and the lefty has been particularly effective on the road. He holds a 0.48 ERA in three games away from Camden Yards.
Means played stopper in his last start against the A’s. He held Oakland to just two hits and struck out six over 6.1 innings. Means tossed seven scoreless innings at Texas prior to picking up the win over the Athletics.
Cedric Mullins will take his usual place at the top of the Baltimore lineup. Mullins drove home Ramón Urías with a sacrifice fly to beat New York on Thursday. Mullins will be joined in the outfield by DJ Stewart and Austin Hays.
Urías will bat ninth and play short for the Orioles. Freddy Galvis remains sidelined for Baltimore— O’s skipper Brandon Hyde previously stated that he hoped to play Galvis on the trip.
Pat Valaika gets the nod at second, while Rio Ruiz takes the hot corner. Ryan Mountcastle will play first base and Trey Mancini will serve as the designated hitter. Chance Sisco will catch Means.
There’s something special about late night baseball on a weekend. Grab a drink, turn off the NFL draft and stay up late with us tonight.
