Things can change pretty quickly in baseball.
A few days ago, the Orioles were riding high, coming off of a sweep against the rival Red Sox. Now they’re on the defensive, just trying to avoid getting brushed away by the Yankees and falling back down to .500.
Fortunately for the O’s? They’ve got the top gun going. John Means gets the ball after his excellent Opening Day outing, and he’ll face a stiff challenge against a Yankee lineup that has started to find its swing. Means pitched twice against the Yankees last year, first allowing five earned runs in 2.1 innings, then allowing only one run in six. Hopefully, the latter Means shows up tonight.
Opposing him is Jameson Taillon, who hasn’t pitched since going 2-3 with a 4.10 ERA for Pittsburgh in 2019. This spring, he compiled a 1.08 ERA in 8.1 innings.
