Triple-A: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Marlins) 8, Norfolk Tides 7
Unfortunately, the Tides snatched defeat from the jaws of victory when reliever Eric Hanhold coughed up two runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra innings, and then two more to lose it in the tenth.
Down in a 4-1 hole in the fifth, the Tides used four long balls to get back in the game. Zach Jarrett, Jahmai Jones, Tyler Nevin, and Ramon Urias (a two-run homer) went deep before Jones contributed an RBI single to put the Tides up 6-4 before they squandered their lead in the ninth inning.
Norfolk starter Kyle Bradish (2-0, 3.44 ERA) allowed four runs in five innings with six strikeouts, three of the runs coming on long balls.
Double-A: Bowie Baysox 8, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets) 7
The Baysox (24-9) keep rolling. They jumped out to an early 7-1 lead against Binghamton before three Baysox hurlers allowed the Rumble Ponies to get back in the game. Then, in the seventh, Cadyn Grenier drove in the go-ahead run with a grounder.
The Baysox’s 6-9 hitters all had two hits apiece, including Grenier, and so did leadoff man Terrin Vavra. Adley Rutschman was 0-for-4 with a run batted in.
Bowie starter DL Hall (2-0, 3.13 ERA) struck out 10 while conceding three runs over five innings. Gray Fenter, who pitched the sixth to the ninth innings, allowed three runs to get the blown save and the win.
High-A: Bowling Green Hot Rods (Rays) 10, Aberdeen IronBirds 9
The IronBirds (20-13) lost this game in 12 innings, going up 5-4 before three pitchers combined to allow five runs in extra innings. Opener Kyle Brnovich struck out four in 2.2 innings with one run allowed.
Kyle Stowers had two hits, including a three-run drive, plus a walk. Toby Welk was 2-for-5 with a walk and an RBI, and second baseman Adam Hall was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 6, Lynchburg Hillcats 3 (Game 1, makeup of June 11th)
The Shorebirds put up 11 hits in just seven innings in Game 1 of a Saturday doubleheader. DH Hudson Haskin went 2-for-4 with a run driven in, Gunnar Henderson went 2-for-4, first baseman TT Bowens homered, and catcher Jordan Cannon went 2-for-3.
Brandon Young, Kyle Martin, and Ignacio Feliz allowed a run apiece for the Shorebirds, striking out eight between them.
Lynchburg Hillcats 2, Delmarva Shorebirds 1 (Game 2)
In Game 2, the Shorebirds and the Hillcats were tied 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh, when Griffin McLarty allowed the game-winning run.
The Shorebirds offense was quiet this time around, the only run coming on a single by TT Bowens. Even so, Darell Hernaiz was 2-for-4, Gunnar Henderson went 1-for-3, and Ramon Rodriguez was 1-for-3.
