Tuesday night Orioles game thread: at Cleveland, 7:10

The Orioles are in a slump, and so is tonight’s starting pitcher. Wouldn’t it be nice if both got back on track?

The Orioles have lost 16 road games in a row. Matt Harvey has allowed five or more earned runs in five of his last six starts.

Now would be a good time for both to stop the slide.

The Orioles face Cleveland in the second game of the series tonight, following a 4-3 loss Monday during which Baltimore’s defense was...well...not great. That defeat extended the Orioles’ long losing streak away from Camden Yards, which stretches back to May 6. You may remember that as the day John Means pitched against the Mariners and did so pretty well.

Soon after that day, the Orioles lost 14 in a row; that streak ended, so this one can to. It would help if Matt Harvey, who was 3-2 with a 3.60 ERA on May 7 but is 0-5 with a 14.19 ERA since, found his fastball. Or his sinker. Or his slider. Or an unattended container of Spider Tack. Something.

Opposing him will be Cal Quantrill, who is 0-2 with a 3.21 ERA. The Orioles, though, should be happy to see him; he lasted 1.1 innings against them in his last start, allowing five hits and seven runs (five earned) as Baltimore raced out to the lead in what became an 18-5 victory on June 6.
