Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 0, Durham Bulls 4
Not much to see here, folks! The bats couldn’t get going against Durham’s starter-by-committee, and Tom Eshelman allowed four runs in 4.2 innings to Wander Franco and a cadre of AAAA players. Willy Yahn’s fourth-inning triple was the only thing separating the Tides and a no-hitter. Also, Chance Sisco had an error. Marcos Diplán, Isaac Mattson, and Claudio Custodio tossed a scoreless inning apiece.
Yep. Let’s move right on from this one, alright?
Double-A: Bowie Baysox 7, Hartford Yard Goats 8
The Baysox lost a heartbreaker in extra innings, imploding with four runs allowed in the 10th. Steven Klimek got tagged with the blown save. DL Hall had an off-day with “just” seven strikeouts in six innings of work, and three runs allowed on four hits, including two homers. His ERA is still 2.67, so don’t get too worried.
Also, it’s not like it was a bad day at the plate for Bowie on Saturday. Adley Rutschman had a shameful 3-for-5 day with a double and a home run. (KIDDING!) Joey Ortiz chipped in with two hits and an RBI, and Johnny Rizer also went 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs.
High-A: Aberdeen IronBirds 1, Hickory Crawdads 6 (Game 1)
The IronBirds got seven hits, but couldn’t pull off the big blow. Meanwhile, starter Garrett Stallings allowed four runs in 5.1 innings, and reliever Morgan McSweeney coughed up two more.
Catcher Maverick Handley had the IronBirds’ sole RBI, with a groundout in the fourth. The unstoppable Toby Welk had a double (.296/.772), and so did second baseman AJ Graffanino. Jordan Westburg, Kyle Stowers, Jahmai Jones (rehabbing), and Adam Hall had a hit apiece.
Aberdeen IronBirds 2, Hickory Crawdads 4 (Game 2)
In Game 2, a makeup for a rainout on June 3, the IronBirds went down 4-2 in seven innings. Starter Ryan Wilson pitched three hitless, runless innings, but the relief corps, Ryan Conroy and Felix Bautista, coughed up two runs each.
For the Ironbirds, first baseman Andrew Daschbach drove in one run with a triple, and DH Christopher Burgess plated a run himself on a 1-for-3 day.
Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 7, Fredericksburg Nationals 3
Delmarva continues to be an unstoppable force coming up against movable objects, with 11 hits on Saturday to pick up starter Ignacio Feliz, who allowed two runs in four innings on three hits and three walks.
The game was basically out of reach by the third inning, when Delmarva was up 5-0. Credit Mason Janvrin, 3-for-4 with eight total bases (a home run and a triple) and shortstop Darell Hernaiz, 3-for-5 with an RBI, for the big blows on the day. First baseman Trevor Kehe also contributed three RBIs and a double.
