Triple-A: Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) 8, Norfolk Tides 4
John Means took the mound in what should be his final rehab start before returning to the Orioles. Means, who has been sidelined since June 6 with a left shoulder strain, worked into the fourth inning. He allowed five hits and was charged with two runs after Evan Phillips allowed an inherited base runner to score.
Ryan Ripken hit his first home run at Triple-A. Rylan Bannon also went deep, his fourth, with a solo shot in the second. Tyler Nevin drove in Jahmai Jones with a single in the third, and Jones added a solo home run in the eighth.
MLB Future’s game alum Marco Diplán allowed three runs and recorded just one out. Fernando Abad allowed a pair of runs over one inning.
Yusniel Diaz missed the game with turf toe.
Double-A: Bowie Baysox vs. Erie SeaWolves (Tigers) PPD: Rain
Last night’s game was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader starting today at 4:05 pm.
High-A: Hickory Crawdads (Rangers) 7. Aberdeen IronBirds 6
J.D. Mundy evened the score with a solo home run in the seventh, but Logan Gillaspie allowed a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning. Mundy’s blast marked his second of the game. The former minor-league free agent drove in Jordan Westburg and Adam Hall with an Earl Weaver special in the third.
Hall finished 2-5 with a double and Gunnar Henderson added two hits as well. Westburg finished 1-4, while Dylan Harris added a pair of hits.
Jake Prizina started and allowed four runs (three earned) over three innings. Xavier Moore allowed a pair of runs over two frames, but Jonathan Pendergast added two scoreless innings. Gillaspie took the loss after allowing the eighth inning homer.
Low-A: Down East Wood Ducks (Rangers) 9, Delmarva Shorebirds 3
The Down East Wood Ducks, which remains just an absolutely absurd name for a baseball team, scored twice in the first and second to establish an early lead. Shane Davis recovered for a scoreless third but still took the loss. Ryan Watson allowed five more runs over 3.2 innings, but Luis Perez kept the Wood Ducks off the board for the final inning.
Lamar Sparks gave Delmarva a brief lead with a solo shot in the top of the first. Ryan Ogren received an RBI after taking one for the team with the bases loaded, and TT Bowens homered in the seventh. Bowens’ homer was his 11th on the season.
