Tuesday night Orioles game thread: at Rays, 7:10 p.m.

John Means is back on the mound, there’s an all-women team in the broadcast booth, and the Orioles have a chance for a series win. There’s a lot going on today.

This is a big day for Birdland. For a variety of reasons.

For one, it’s the return of John Means, who was cruising along in a Cy Young caliber start to the season before a sore left shoulder cut him down in early June. The lefty was 4-2 with a 2.28 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 69 strikeouts in 71 innings when he left after two-thirds of an inning on June 5 against Cleveland.

Two, tonight will be a first, as a broadcasting team composed entirely of women will bring viewers the game on YouTube as MLB’s Game of the Week. Melanie Newman will handle the play-by-play, MLB.com writer Sarah Langs will do the commentary, Alanna Rizzo will be the on-field reporter and Heidi Watney and Lauren Gardner will be pregame and postgame anchors, respectively.

And three, there’s a chance for a series win against a team that has tormented the O’s of late. After dropping each of its first six games against the Rays, Baltimore took down Tampa Bay 6-1 yesterday, and with a victory tonight will take their first set against the Tropicanians since Aug. 2 of last year.

Getting the ball for the Rays will be left-hander - and Baltimore native - Shane McClanahan, who is 3-3 with a 4.05 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched. He has not faced the Orioles yet, but is coming off of a strong start during which he held the Blue Jays to one run on four hits in four innings.
