Fresh off a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Tigers yesterday, the Orioles will look to make it two in a row with another win tonight. Detroit took the series opener on Thursday by a score of 6-2. The Birds will have to do a better job against future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera, who’s gone 5-for-6 with two home runs in the past two games.

John Means will be making his third start for the O’s since returning from a left shoulder strain that kept him out for more than a month. He’s still working his way back to peak form. On July 20 against the Rays, the left-hander allowed five runs in five innings, and on July 25 against the Nationals he gave up four runs in 6.2 innings. The Orioles’ ace is carrying a 2.94 ERA on the year. Means has made just one career start at Comerica Park in Detroit and it did not go well, as he allowed five runs in 5.2 innings.

The Tigers will start 23-year-old right-hander Matt Manning, who was their first-round draft pick (9th overall) in 2016. He’s had a rocky introduction to the major leagues, having allowed 22 earned runs in 33 innings over seven starts. Hitters are making a lot of contact against Manning this year (9.8 H/9) and he’s not missing many bats (4.6 SO/9), so we’ll see if the Orioles’ offense can do some damage in their first look at the Tigers’ rookie.
