The Orioles put an end to one losing streak earlier this week. Now they’ll try to end another that has crossed into double digits.
After two straight wins that finally snapped their 19-game losing streak, the Orioles tasted defeat again with a 6-3 loss to the Rays Friday. That brought their skid against Tampa Bay to 10 games, dating back to July 20. The O’s have been outscored 85-33 over those games, and they’re a staggering 1-16 against the Rays this season.
Of course, if you’re an optimist, you say that that just means the O’s are due. To that point, they’ll send their best pitcher to the mound in John Means, who’s 5-6 with a 3.50 ERA. He has a 5.84 ERA over his last seven starts, but he was solid in his last outing, allowing three runs on four hits in six innings against the Braves.
Michael Wacha gets the start for Tampa Bay, and is 2-4 with a 5.88 ERA. In his last start against the Orioles on Aug. 8, he allowed five runs on 10 hits in five innings.
