After Monday night’s homer-happy win, the Orioles will try to earn their eighth victory in 11 games.

When you’re rolling, everything seems to go your way. The Orioles are providing an example.

Baltimore has won seven of its last 10 games, the latest of which was a 7-1 victory over the Yankees that featured four long balls. And now, as they go for the series victory, they’ll be able to do so without facing ace Gerrit Cole, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 and who struck out 13 while allowing four hits and no runs in an April 6 win over the Orioles.

Instead, the Birds will face 23-year-old Luis Gil, the Yankees’ sixth-ranked prospect. Gil is a combined 4-1 with a 4.13 ERA in Double-A and Triple-A this season, and was 3-0 with a 5.64 ERA at Triple-A Wilkes-Barre/Scranton before getting the call to the Bronx. He had 38 strikeouts in 30.1 innings, but also walked 23 batters in that time.

Baltimore will go with Alexander Wells, one of the team’s top prospects who is 1-1 with a 5.28 ERA this season. He’s made two starts this season, and in his last one he went five innings while allowing seven hits and four runs in a 6-2 loss to Detroit.
