Tuesday night game thread: vs. Yankees, 7:05 pm

Can the Orioles play spoiler and kick the Yankees out of a postseason spot? Probably not.

The Orioles are back in action tonight after a blessed off day, and they will try to stop the New York Yankees. The Yankees have lost the first wild card spot to the red hot Blue Jays and are in a virtual tie with the Red Sox for the second spot. Anything less than a sweep of the Orioles will feel like failure to the Yankees. Let’s hope they leave Baltimore feeling like failure.

As I write this game thread, my four-year-old daughter is sitting next to me on the couch. I asked her if she wants to watch the Orioles game with me tonight and she said Ryan McKenna will hit a home run. He’s not in the lineup and he doesn’t really hit home runs, but don’t tell her that. She is a big fan. Maybe Ryan Mountcastle will hit one for her instead.

If you missed the news, the Orioles today placed Jorge Mateo on the 60-day injured list with right lumbar inflammation. That’s too bad, he is fun to watch. We’ll see you in spring, Jorge! Called up to take his place is our old friend Pat “the rake-ah” Valaika.
