The Orioles’ latest bid to play spoiler didn’t get off to a hot start. Baltimore gave up five home runs Tuesday, and the playoff-hunting Yankees came away with a 7-2 win.
Baltimore will get another shot tonight, though, and it’ll have its ace on the mound to help in that endeavor.
John Means is getting the start, taking his 5-7 record and 3.42 ERA to the mound for the third time against New York. He’s allowed three runs in 9.2 innings against the Bronx Bombers, and after struggling through August has started to point the arrow back up. He’s allowed only two earned runs in each of his last three starts, and has a 2.98 ERA in that span.
He’ll go against Nestor Cortes Jr., who is 2-2 with a 2.70 ERA. He made his only other appearance against the Orioles on Sept. 3, allowing one run on four hits in 5.2 innings while striking out seven.
