Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 6, Charlotte Knights (White Sox) 1
The final week of the season is upon us, and the Norfolk Tides broke out the bats to get it started.
Norfolk pounded out 12 hits to roll to a 6-1 victory over the Charlotte Knights Sunday at Truist Field in Charlotte.
Pretty much everyone took part in the festivities, with seven of the nine Norfolk batters in the starting lineup registering a hit, and five picking up two. The best days belonged to Ryan Ripken and Robert Neustrom, who had two-hit and two-run games for the Tides. Both players hit doubles, and for Neustrom, the hitting performance raised his average for the season to .250. Ripken climbed to .171 with his day.
The two had company, however. No. 29 prospect Tyler Nevin, Rylan Bannon and Zach Jarrett also had two-hit games, with Jarrett picking up his 11th double of the season. Jarrett drove in two runs while the others drove in one apiece, and top prospect Adley Rutschman and No. 11 prospect Kyle Stowers had one hit each. Rutschman’s hit was part of a 1-for-4 day that moved his average to .319, while Stowers is batting .299 after going 1-for-3. One day after homering, Yusniel Diaz went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts.
The win went to Ryan Hartman, who pitched five innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out five. Isaac Mattson (two innings, three strikeouts) and Claudio Custodio (two innings, two strikeouts) carried the Tides to the finish line with scoreless stints on the mound.
There are no games scheduled for Monday.
