Saturday Bird Droppings: Where they're talking about the outfield, again

Spring training is a bit less than a week away, and it's dead in the baseball world. Here's what there is to find around the Internet about the Orioles on this Saturday.

Hello, friends.

There are now 51 days until Orioles Opening Day. Does the number 51 hold any particular significance for you? I can't think of any, especially. It is a number less than 52, though, and every day it gets a little closer. That counts for something.

A slideshow is in today's links. That's how hard it is out there to find anything at all. I routinely Google for Orioles news and the first link that came up today was, very seriously, a link about how the actual bird builds nests. That is a first for me.

Here's what came up for Birdland news on this Saturday...

Projecting the Orioles' Opening Day roster for the 2015 season - Baltimore Sun
I warned you there was a slideshow, and here it is. Why do you need to make a slideshow, Baltimore Sun? I know it's not the writer's fault, but shame on whoever was involved.

Orioles try to replace Cruz, Markakis in outfield | Comcast SportsNet Baltimore
How many more ways do you think this same article will be written over the next month? Some of them will probably be on this site too. It's one of the few plotlines going into spring training.

Billy Ripken Likes Orioles' Chances To Repeat In AL East (Press Box)
We've heard what Mike Bordick thinks about the Orioles. Now we go farther back into the 1990s to hear what Billy Ripken thinks.

Pioneering Toronto Star baseball writer Alison Gordon dead at 72 | Toronto Star
The first female member of the BBWAA passed away. At her former newspaper, they remember a pioneer. I bet she had some interesting stories.

There is not a single Oriole or former Oriole with a birthday on this day. It was, however, a black day in 2012 when the team released Clay Rapada.

And that's the way it is in Birdland on February 14 - or at least, unless something happens later. Have a safe Saturday.
