Wednesday Bird Droppings

It's the dawn of another sad day in Birdland, let's try to be happy today despite the bad baseball.

It was really tough to find links for you all today. The Orioles aren't really worth talking about right now on a national level, maybe. And the fan writers are too sad to put anything together. But I've done my best.

School of Roch: Update on J.J. Hardy and note on Paul Janish
J.J. Hardy got one of those platelet-rich plasma injections, so he should be fine in no time. In the meantime, read some quotes by Paul Janish about how happy he is to be in the majors again.

Camden Depot always has the numbers to explain just why you're feeling bad about the Orioles.

Seriously, that's it. If you guys see any Orioles news today, please link it in the comments so we can all see it.

Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! You have no current or former Orioles as birthday buddies. Sorry about that. But you do share a birthday with Mother Teresa (1910-1997), so do something nice for someone else today in her honor. Other folks celebrating today include Macauley Culkin (35 yrs), Melissa McCarthey (45), and someone named Vintage Beef (34), who is listed as a web video star. So there's that.

On this day in 2012, the Orioles traded for Joe Saunders. It seemed like a useless trade at the time, but then Hokie Joe pitched the Orioles into the ALDS as the starter for the 2012 Wild Card game, so now we look back on him fondly.

In other history, it was on this day in 1939 that the first major league baseball game was televised. The game was played between the Cincinnati Reds and the Brooklyn Dodgers, at a time when there were only about 400 TVs in the New York area.

In 1920, the 19th Amendment was adopted into the U.S. Constitution. It was a pretty big one, that allowed women the right to vote. This is why sometimes, when my frient Julia is at the casino playing roulette, she'll put a chip on the 19/20 line and say, "It's for women's suffrage!"

That's all I have for you. Let's all try to be as pleasant to each other as possible today. Clearly the Orioles hate us, so all we have is each other.
